“is it a coincidence tho?… the batman in every single of hos most recent posts. batman is the name of the last chapter of his book, the chapter where he reflects on his life and the meaning of it. is it also just a coincidence that in the last chapter, ‘batman’, he talks a lot about how he watches the waters, the sea, the ripples it makes. he talks about the power the sea and water has, and its size, in which and i quote “big enough to get lost in forever”. he mentions that watching the oceans, he feels peace and gratitude. he looked at the water daily. is it only a coincidence that his death happened in the water? rip, matty. you will be truly missed. and im so sorry if we missed your signals for help. i hope you find peace in the waters where your soul will forever live.”
Another cryptic Instagram post that Mathew shared last was on 23rd October 2023, 5 days before his passing. It was a photo of him in an infinity pool, positioned at a corner of the pool under the night sky. He captioned the photo as follows;

The Meaning of Batman on Mathew’s Instagram
If you did not already know, Mathew Perry wrote a book, a memoir, titled Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, where he narrated his life and struggles.
In the Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible memoir, Batman is a recurring theme. In this memoir, Perry first refers to himself as the character at the end of the Prologue, cryptically claiming, “Also, I’m Batman.”
He explains that his identification with Batman later in the memoir is because of his childlike desire to be heroic and invincible. He further explains that he imagined his father as Superman and himself as Batman. The roleplay illustrates Perry’s idolization of the father he rarely sees.
